In Freud, the model of the dream-as-disguised-wish-fulfillment is not presented for what it is, namely a principle that determines the form of discussion of all the phenomena concerned, but as corresponding to the discovery of the real nature of dreaming: and it is applied to all dreams, not because it has been demonstrated by a scientific investigation of different kinds of dreams, but because it has been granted a privileged place in the discussion.
