Embracing the Wedge requires practice. Over time, it helps us build endurance and resilience. But that’s not all. The Wedge changes us in a far more profound way. It delays the onset of damage to the body, which helps explain how I managed to climb up to the top of Kilimanjaro in minus-thirty-degree winds. The Wedge can reset our bodies and minds to the default settings that we had when we were cavemen and cavewomen. This doesn’t mean that the Wedge makes you invincible. As Hof says, “In the struggle of man versus nature, nature will always win.” Instead, repeated exposure to difficult environments actually unlocks biological mechanisms that our ancestors trained from infancy. In other words, you will still have all the benefits of a modern human being, but you will also have the resilience and endurance that humans had before we got so damn comfortable.
Carney, Scott.
