The other way of creating memories is through acts that leave no lasting trace behind them: acts such as the deposition of valuables or the destruction of monuments. These cannot be interpreted through any surviving remains, but the event itself is remembered and celebrated by later generations. It might be commemorated by stories and by the naming of places, and in that way the significance of particular locations could be preserved over long periods of time.Bradley, Richard. An Archaeology of Natural Places.
