Slowly, more people began to hear about strange things going on inside the boundaries of the retreat. While Moore was the only person living on the land full-time, other people interested in serving their lama pitched in to do minor repairs, help with the cooking, and live near the land. Although they were never likely to actually see the retreatants, they came from around the world to serve and accrue karmic merit in their presence. If, in the course of their duties, they learned something about their lama that didn’t fit with their image of a wholesome retreat, most had the good sense not to spread any rumors. Later, one person who was considering ordination under Roach wrote an anonymous blog entry and posted it online. “If, perhaps, I slipped into a vision that this was in any way unethical for a monk, and certainly more appealing for a 28 year old man, I quickly marked it down in my little vow book as an infraction of my pure view.” The unnamed writer exposed how schisms began to form among the retreatants.
